Word 2007 greyed out buttons

I bought my daughter a new PC with word 2007 pre-installed several months
ago. Word worked fine for a while, but now all the prompts are greyed out.
Any help would be appreciated!

My guess is that you had a trial version of Word and it's now time to pay
for it.

How do I go about doing that? There weren't any prompts indicating where to
go.
