Word 2007 File Save Issues

When attempting to save a word 2007 document, a "file error" occurs and then
asks me if I want to save the file as a "rescue.asd" file. The only issue
that may be occurring is that I have used equations in my word document.
However, if the equation tool is faulty, why is it even available?
