Default Word 2007 Crashes on Exit

I posted this question on 7/1 but can't find it listed so here it is again.
I have Office 2007 Professional with all updates and SP2 running on Vista
with all updates. When exiting Word it goes through "not respondng...trying
to recover...restarting". After the restart (blank page showing) it exits
okay. During the day as long as I leave one document open other docs can be
opened, edited, closed okay. Steps taken include: create new Normal file;
disable all Add-ins (except Smart Tag for OL); registry clean (PC Tools
Registry Mechanic); virus scan (Norton); FIxtIt solution on Data key in
article 940791.

The same problem has recently started with Outlook 2007. It appears that
Vista is timing out waiting for some response in exiting the application,
assumes after a few seconds that the program is Not Responding, and then goes
into some type of Restart mode. Most annoying!

Any thoughts out there?
