Default Word 2007

I have another problem. I cannot get a new document to format so I can do a
letter. It wants to double space. I think it is because I have been working
with the APA template. I do not understand why a new document would keep the
same format. Also, when I check the line spacing it say single.

Help!!

There are two elements to setting line spacing in Word: 1) line spacing,
and 2) spacing before and after a paragraph. In Word 2007, the default
line spacing in Word 2007 is 1.15, the default spacing before a
paragraph is 0 points, and the default spacing after a paragraph is 10
points. You need to change the Normal style line spacing to single and
the spacing after to 0 points, and then click on Default. See
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...165231033.aspx "DRAFT:
Adjust the spaces between lines or paragraphs" for more information.

Actually, the steps in article you cited modifies the Document Defaults
(which is now the preferred method) and not the Normal style. :-)

Prior to Word 2007 we didn't have access to the Document Defaults, they were
hard-wired in the application, and all we had was the Normal style. But now
that they've been exposed, the Document Defaults are actually what your
styles (including Normal) look to in order to obtain their base formats. So
if you modify your Normal style as an effort to set your base defaults in
Word 2007 you're also adding another layer to Styles which can "break". I
think you recall the font size issue for Table styles? It no longer occurs
if you use the Document Defaults method for setting defaults. But if you
modify the Normal style the issue will still occur.

Do I understand correctly that I should not change the Default settings of
1.5 spacing 0pt and 10pt? I've changed it back. Soooo when I want to do a
correspondence, I have to format each time??

I'm sorry if I've confused you. :-( If you used the paragraph dialog box,
made your changes and then clicked "Default" then you're fine - you modified
the Document Defaults.

G-n-o mentioned modifying the Normal style, which in past versions was our
only choice. Now that we can modify the Document Defaults instead it's now
the preferred method since it avoids some bugs that occur by modifying the
Normal style.

Either make your changes again, OR what you might want to do instead is on
the Home tab, click Change Styles, point at Style Set, and then click Word
2003. To set this as the default, click Change Styles again and then click
Set As Default.
