Word 2003 saving documents as Docx

I have a problem with Word 2003 with the compatibility pack
installed. . By selecting File-open then browsing to a Word document,
but not opening it. Next right click on the file and select Save As,
the only formats that the document can be saved in is Docx or DocM.
The default file format to save in is .Doc

I am aware this is a long way round to save a document, however I have
a lot of users that have got used to using this method to save
documents to a different location.

Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this.

Maybe it's just me...but resolve what? I don't understand what the issue is
here. There are 3 choices for file format...docx, docm, and doc and it looks
like you see all three of them. And if that method to save a document in a
different location works for the users, then that's fine (although I must
admit that I don't follow what they are doing as you have written it...the
"...but not opening it..." part is confusing).
