Default Windows Installer running after upgrade

During a company-wide upgrade to Office 2003, on a number of PCs we replaced
Office XP Professional with Office Standard 2003.
Now, the Windows Installer keeps running on these PCs when using some
features in Word/Excel/PowerPoint. eg saving a file and using My Places bar.

We believe this is due to improper uninstall of Office Pro, but can't work
out how to fix it.
I found the link to "completely remove Office 97 in Windows XP", but nothing
similar for Office XP.
As an experiment on one PC, I've tried simply deleting entry
"HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0", but this didn't work.

Any other ideas? (Bearing in mind this fix has to be applied to quite a few
PCs.)

Thanks for suggestion, but don't fancy trying this on so many PCs. Was
hoping for something that we can push out through Group Policy.

Try it on one PC and see if it corrects the issue. If it does then you have no choice. You can push it out via GP with a script

Default Re: Windows Installer running after upgrade

Thank you for help. We did manage to find an easier fix after all. Checked
eventlog and found that MSInstaller was looking for a particular key in the
register,
"The resource
'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\ Common\WebDriveUserData'
does not exist."

So we just put it in (with zero value) and problem seems to be fixed. This
is a bit easier to package and push out, so we'll give this a try first.
