You can if it wasn't OEM.

Does anyone know if there is a Microsoft link showing it is compatible? I
have read both, but more posts that said 2007 is compatible. I am looking
for something official. Thank you. I can't find it.

Why is there so much confusion on this? Is it some urban legend someone
started somewhere that said you had to have Office 2007 with Vista? At
stores sales people are telling folks they must have Office 2007 on their new
Vista machines. I knew it probably wasn't true. Thanks again.

i use 2003 on 2 vista laptops. i like it a lot better than 2007 which i
tried for a month. it opens faster too...Excel opens in about 1.5
seconds on my toshiba laptop with a T5500 processor (Core 2 Duo, 1.67 Mhz)

The stores are in business to sell products.

In a nutshell it works this way. Someone confuses something about Office
with something about Windows( perhaps because Microsoft makes both and
used the same version naming scheme), asks their friend who knows even
less that they do about it, who then adds a bit of their own confused
wisdom, and then they pass that along on a "forum" as a "did you know"
fact.
