Trouble Opening Files

Ever since I upgraded to Office 2007, I can no longer open files through
shortcuts. I can only open files by going directly through the program
itself. Any idea what went wrong in installing or how I fix this? Thanks!

I have noticed a similar problem but found a way to work around it. If I open
an Excel file through a shortcut. Excel starts but shows a blank screen. If I
then click on the Office button, the file opens.
