trial version of 2007

My new laptop came with a preinstalled trial copy of Office 2007.
I have an MSDN developer subscription. Am I able to use my product key from
MSDN to turn my trial version into the real thing or do I have to install
the MSDN version and use the key on that?

Uninstall the trial first. Install your MSDN license.
