Default Stanby/hibernate in XP Pro

Ever since a MS update some months ago I cannot go into standby or hibernate
witjout closing all office applications AND removing them fromthe processes
list in TaskManager. I am using Office 2003. As this renders standby and
hibernate useless I'd like to solve the problem. I have seen various posts
by others withthe same issue but no solution. Anyone able to help?

What Addins are installed. That is likely what is causing the Office
apps to hang.
