Greetings,
I'm having difficulty using handwriting recognition. I'm using Windows XP
Pro and Office 2003. I've followed the KB articles on how to install it, and
when I do a clean install of Office 2003, it works properly. However, as
soon as I update Office 2003 to SP3, it stops working. The writing pad
option appears, but when you click on it, no window appears. The drawing pad
still working (including its window appearing.) I've tried
uninstalling/reinstalling handwriting, to no avail.
My workplace dictates that I have SP3 installed. Please help!
This is what I did to fix the problem.. I took the files from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\INK from a system that had not been updated and copied them into the folder of the updated computer.
Works great! I've been banging my head against a wall for several hours myself...

Kris,
It worked great -- thanks so much! You've saved me a bit of head-beating
myself.
For future references (or for anyone else this thread may help out), the
file that had changed between the old version and SP3 is PENUSA.DLL. I
copied that file over and everything worked.

You really shouldn't change the subject line. We have no idea what
message thread this fix refers to.
