Default Shaded column in Outlook 2003 Inbox

I have noticed that one of the columns in my Outlook 2003 Inbox is shaded.
Is there a reason for this? And, is there a setting that can remove that
shading? Image attached. Thanks.

Try explaining, as the image was stripped. Maybe because this isn't a
binary newsgroup.

Sorry about that. Someone in another forum told me that if e-mail is sorted
by a particular column (i.e. date) then that column will be shaded. They
also mentioned that you can remove the shading if you choose to have a
double subject line. Anyone know how to do that?

R-click a column header, Customize Current View, Other Settings.
