I'm running a network windows xp sp3 clients running office 2007
professional plus.
If I open a spreadsheet in excel and insert a hyperlink pointing to share
\\server\share\filename the link will open to the document. The problem is
if say I copy that hyperlink and paste it into outlook 2007 it becomes just
\share\filename. I believe the terminology is that in excel it is an
absolute hyperlink and pasting it into outlook makes it an relative
hyperlink. I wanted to know if there was an way to do this.
From your description, I understand after copying and pasting a hyperlink
\\server\share\filename into an email in Outlook 2007, the hyperlink
becomes the relative hyperlink "\share\filename".
I would like to explain that the issue may be due to many factors such as
wrong settings with the email editor or the network settings. To address
your concern, I have made the following test:
1. Log on a network test machine and open Excel 2007.
2. Insert a hyperlink \\147972m\drivers
3. Open Outlook 2007 and open a new HTML format email.
4. Copy and paste the hyperlink from Excel to the new HTML format email.
5. The hyperlink displays as the absolute hyperlink \\147972m\drivers in
Outlook 2007 email.
To troubleshoot the issue, I recommend we follow the steps below:
1. After pasting the hyperlink from Excel to Outlook, there will be a
"Paste option" icon appearing at right side of the hyperlink.
2. Please click the "Paste option" icon.
3. Please choose "Keep source formatting and link to Excel".
4. Please let me know the result.
If the issue remains, please continue to steps below:
1. Open Word 2007, click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word
Options.
2. Click the Advanced.
3. Under General, click Web Options.
4. Click the Files tab.
5. Click to clear the Update links on save check box.
6. Click OK two times.
If the issue is not resolved, I would appreciate it if you could provide
the following information:
1. Does the same issue occur if we log on another system?
2. Can the hyperlink be copied properly as the absolute hyperlink from
Excel 2007 to other third party applications?
3. Please also help me to capture a screenshot of the problematic hyperlink
in Outlook:
a. Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
b. Click the "Start" and "Run".
c. Type "mspaint" in the box and Press Enter.
d. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the
"File" menu, and click "Save".
e. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File
name:" box, for example: "screenshot".
f. Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as
type" box, click "Desktop" on the left pane and then click "Save".
