Microsoft office doucment imaging opens ok.
But if I dare to click on the file pull down menu,
(or alt+f) it crashes.
All the other pull down menus are ok.
This problem doesn't exist in any other program.
how to fix this?
note: this has been functioning correctly on an win-xp computer
- office 2003 for over a year
only recent download is the weekly microsoft patches

I have had this exact problem since the SP3 patch came out! The crash
report says the problem is in the file mspview.exe. I have tried
replacing that file with an old copy, but that did not help. Does
anyone have a solution (besides reinstalling without SP3?).
Also, I noticed that when I installed Office on a computer that I had
not previously installed it on, and then upgraded to SP3 right away,
the document imaging worked at first, but then after a few scans and a
crash (not sure what caused) it won't work any longer. This problem
occurs in both Windows XP Pro and Home Edition.

mspview.exe (the file that runs Office Document Imaging) which is found
in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\11.0 was
corrupted with the recent Office Service Pack 3. Just replace it with
the old version and the program should work fine. Here it is: http://www.instrumentec.com/files/posts/
