Default Problem

I don't know if this the right newsgroup but someone will tell me. When my
grandson goes to write a letter in Word as soon as he uses the letter's i
o p k l m or IOPKLM he get the following numbers for the letters 012345.
He uses a Toshiba laptop and Windows XP. He has given a virus check in case
it was a virus but it still happens. Can any one help please.

Hi Ken,

The keys are likely dual function for a numeric keypad and alphabetic keys on a laptop (look for dual letters/number sets on the
keys). The FN key that toggles the numeric keypad is likely switched on.

He's hit an "F" key that turns part of the keyboard into a number pad.
Consult the manual for the machine as to how to turn it off....on my
Satellite it's Fn-F11
