Default Password protect savedate field in Word 2002 work-around

I've found a way to sort-of work-around the savedate field to keep it from
being changed by co-workers.

I used a text box and made it the same width as the page, formatted it to
have no borders showing.
I inserted the savedate field into the box and positioned it to be at the
right side of the footer.
I copied the text box and inserted it into the footer, then formatted it to
be behind text.
Most of my co-workers won't know how to change the field within the text box.
