Default Outline and "tab" button

I used to be able to hit the tab button to go from "I." to "A." to "1.", etc
(and "Shift-Tab to go back), but now when I hit the tab buttons, it just
indents under the same point in the outline. I think I might have hit
something that prevents it from changing points. What do I do to get back to
the way it originally worked?

Default Re: Outline and "tab" button

Would help if you said what version of Office you have. And assuming
you have this problem in Word (not in Excel or Powerpoint or Publisher
or one of the other applications that come in an Office suite):

In Word 97 and 2000, click on Tools | Options | Edit tab | check the
"Tabs and backspace set left indent" box | OK.

In Word 2002 and 2003, click on Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat
As You Type tab | check the "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and
backspaces" box | OK.

In Word 2007, click on Office button | Word Options | Proofing |
AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type tab | check the "Set left-
and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" box.
