Default Opening .doc files without opening Word 2007 first

I have installed Office 2007 and whilst all the other old file extensions are
associated with their respective office programs, i cannot get .doc files to
associate with Word 2007. I have attempted to associate them but Word is not
in the list and when i browse for the program it will not select it. Any
ideas how i can sort this so i can just click on an icon and the file will
open?

Cheers
