Default Office Product Key from Dead laptop

Attemping to load former xp office version from Microsoft to new laptop. Was
previously preinstalled. HP wants $50 to extend warranty so they can talk me
to retreiving product key from my laptop(that is dead).

Any advice?
Thanks

If Offixe XP came preinstalled on the old laptop, save your money. It lives and died with that laptop as it is OEM and is tied to the machine on which it was installed.

If your Office was purchased separately from the laptop, Microsoft can help
you. You'll need some sort of proof of purchase but it's worth the call.
