office imaging crashes

Microsoft office doucment imaging opens ok
But if I dare to click on the file pull down menu, or ctrl+p to print it
crashes
The other pull down menus are ok

how do I fix this?

note: this has been functioning correctly on an xp computer - office 2003
for over a year
only recent download is the weekly microsoft patches
