Office for Geneology Use Practical?

I’m using Office 2003 but retired 10 years ago. I don’t use a server, just my
desktops connected by a home network. I do use Outlook Business Contact
Manager which apparently connects to a server for full functionality but if
it’s doing so, I’m ignorant; I use it run my personal life.

I’m being asked by a number of nieces and nephews about my ancestry. The
thought occurred to me that this might be an application to build a family
tree on a website somewhere (or one of my other computers if I learn to use
it as a server) then have relatives access it with permission to update the
family tree with documents and photos. I suspect the MS Office suite of
programs has advanced to make this a piece of cake … but I’m not sure.
Perhaps someone can comment and give me some guidance. If a family tree
(chart) can be drawn in Excel, with cells linking to pictures (what program?)
and documents (WORD… but will it handle some of those genealogy file
formats?) I’d gladly upgrade.

Your probably better of with a Family Tree specific app, there are many to
choose from, some of which are web hosted
