I have small business and home based office. I phoned to Microsoft licensing
office and asked if I can purchase Home and student version of office 2007
and can install on 2 computers. He told me it is fine.
I am just wondering if he was right. I don't want later MS deny and say that
the guy did not understand the whole scenario. He told me that this version
does not have all the features. I told him I just want to use for letters
etc. He goes go ahead. It will be fine. Thanks in advance.
No, it is NOT fine. I don't know who you talked to but the largest barrier to using Home and Student is that it is NOT for commercial use. Since you are purchasing this for your business, you would have run into difficulties.
Your best bet if installing on only 2 computers would be Office Small Business or Office Professional. If more than 2 computers, you may want to consider a volume license (can be purchased with as little as 5 licenses for any software).

Milly is correct in stating that MS Home and Student is not to be used for
commercial purposes and the MS representative was wrong in stating that it
"doesn't have all the features" as the H & S version is just as powerful as
the full commercial version of the same program. If you purchase that
version you would be in violation of the license agreement, could be legally
responsible for the violation of a contract, but it would not simply stop
working because you are typing a business letter.
Unless you need the actual MS Office product, I would recommend Open Office
for most of your office document needs as it is free, reads and writes to
most versions of the main Office programs (Word, PPT, Excel) and are almost
as powerful in their functions. Great to get the business off the ground
and keep it going until it grows to be able to afford MS products.
