Default Office 2007 Home & Student lic 3 Making an informed purchase decision

I had Windows XP HE & Office 2000 SBC installed and decided to upgrade
to the above after reading the sales information on Amazon.co.ukl

I realised that Excel Word and OneNote was included with a 3 user
licence from info provided,

When I installed it worked fine except OL2000 had been removed and
OLexpress substituted.

I then re-installed OL2000 from the SBC CD.

When I tried to use Word as my email editor it said I needed a
compatible version of word or upgrade to OL 2007.

This retails at about £90 UK which would double my investment for a
very maginal improvement - it also is only licensed for 1 user.

This seems very poor marketing by MS - if they had explained that at
the onset I probably would have stayed as I was.

Word and Outlook versions have always needed to match if you wanted to
use Word as email editor in Outlook. Word 2000/Outlook 2000, Word
2002/Outlook 2002, Word 2003/Outlook 2003, Word 2007/Outlook 2007. This
is not something new with Office 2007. This information might not be
stated in the sales literature, but it is widely available to anyone who
wants to be informed before spending his/her money.

Office 2007 does not explicitly substitute Outlook Express for Outlook,
because Outlook Express does not come with any Office version. Outlook
Express comes with Internet Explorer, which is usually bundled with
Windows. Outlook Express was probably on your computer the whole time
Outlook 2000 was on your computer, but Outlook Express was probably not
your default email application until you removed Outlook 2000. Again,
this information might not be stated in the sales literature, but it is
widely available to anyone who wants to be informed before spending
his/her money.
