Default Office 2007 Enterprise applications not starting anymore

Hello,

my Office 2007 Enterprise applications are not starting anymore.
Excel says:
---------------------------
Microsoft Excel
---------------------------
Not enough memory to run Microsoft Office Excel. Please close other
applications and try again.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Word says:
---------------------------
Microsoft Office Word 12.0
---------------------------
There is not enough memory or disk space to run Word.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Outlook says:
---------------------------
Microsoft Office Outlook
---------------------------
Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot initialize Microsoft Office
shared utilities. Restart your computer or reinstall Microsoft Office Outlook.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Sure enough, I have enough memory and disk space:
1.3 GB free physical memory
86 GB free disk space
I tried an uninstall and thereafter a new install: didn't help.
Please advise

It may be that other things running in the background are sucking up
resources. Have you rebooted? Do your apps run right after you reboot?

Nothing is sucking up any resources. As I wrote: I got 1.3 GB of free
physical memory! Virtual memory is even about 3.5 GB free.
And of course it does not run correctly after a reboot. Not even after a
reinstallation!

If you create a new user profile... does Office function okay for the "new"
user?

Yes. The problem description sounds like your Windows User profile
information might have been corrupted. A way to see if it's this
information as opposed to an installation issue is to create a new user
profile and see if the problem still exists.

Stuff running in the background can conflict with various programs. That's
kind of where I was going, but I didn't explain well.

If Herb's suggestion (which seems like a pretty likely one to me) doesn't
work, you might try going into msconfig and turning off stuff that runs on
startup. Then reboot and try your Office apps again. If they run properly,
you can go back into msconfig and turn things back on one at a time until
you isolate the problem.

I wonder also if it could be an issue with any utilities that have plug-ins
to Office apps. Adobe Acrobat would be one such add-in that comes to mind.
Then there are various translation utilities and things like that. And the
Outlook error message about "cannot initialize shared utilities" might point
in that direction.

Also, just so you know, even though you get an error that references memory,
it isn't necessarily an issue about having "this much free physical memory"
or not. For example, PowerPoint used to give an "out of memory" error
message when you'd open Org Chart objects if you had too many fonts loaded
on your system. In some weird way, PPT / Org Chart thought it was out of
memory, but the fact is, the system memory was fine and there was plenty of
it.

You know, since you're working with an Enterprise edition, I wonder if this
is a network installation. Also, have you checked with your IT guys about
this? It may be worth a call to Microsoft if our suggesions don't resolve
it.

Does Microsoft provide telephone support for Office Enterprise or does its
price contemplate that end users would have to seek help from their own
company's IT department?

Support for Enterprise from MS has to be done by the Volume license holder of that Office 2007 Enterprise. They have the info and the only capability of contacting MS for issues with that version. Contact the IT department from where you purchased your version of Office Enterprise 2007
