Default Office 2003 Problem

I am having a problems getting Office 2003 (student and teacher edition)
completely installed on my home computer. Every time I try to open it, I get
the same message:

"Preparing to install" and then "The command cannot be performed because the
dialog box is open. Click ok and then close open dialog box to continue."

Eventually the program opens, but only after about 10 seconds. Additionally,
I have certain software that requires word and ppt and it does recognize them
as installed.

I have tried removing the software and reinstalling, but that didn't seem to
work. Does anyone have any thoughts?

You might try deleting all temp files, rebooting, then background apps -
those showing in your task bar - are stopped / exited.
