Default office 2003 installation

I would like to install my retail copy of office 2003 on my new laptop.
However, it is an upgrade edition and my new XP laptop did not come with any
of the products the upgrade is looking for. How do I install on my new laptop?

Unless you have an older, qualifying edition of Office,
you'll not be able to install just the upgrade version of Office.

How to buy the 2007 Microsoft Office suites:

And what happened to your origonal qualifying application? eg Works or
Office, if you have either of those cd's you just pop one in when office
complains that it cannot find a qualifying app

My original qualifying product was the OEM version of MS Works 8
pre-installed on my desktop. So there is no CD to load in my new laptop,
unliess I can use my recovery disks to satisfy the requirement. Is that
possible?

Since I ordered an XP system, I had expected there to be a qualifying version
of MS Works on the laptop, but there wasn't anything but Wordpad. When did
MS stop including Works with XP?

No its not, unless one is the Works cd - BTW the MS o/s doesnt include any
other apps, Works or others are included by the PC manufacturer.
Your only solution would be to buy Office2007, or source a qualifying app,
eg early version of Works on Ebay or similar.
You dont install the qualifying app, you simply pop the cd in when office
complains, once verified, you pop the office cd back in and continue the
install.
