When I open the Community, in the right pane, there is a welcome and this
statement: "Be sure to sign in (click the Sign In button above) for the best
experience." I've NEVER had a "Sign In" button! I can only sign in by
starting or replying to a thread which then takes me to a sign in page. When
I enter all the required info and am signed in, I'm taken to the page that
says it can't open where I'm trying to go. I then have to press the back
arrow which takes me back to the message box! I DO have a "Sigh Out" button
once I'm signd in so anyone know how I can get the "Sign In" button to show?
This issue has been reported and I don't know what the current status is.
You can force a login screen if you click Edit My Profile (in the upper
right corner next to Help). Then after you login press F5 to refresh the
page instead of clicking the Back button when you encounter the 404 error. I
know that's not a lot of help but that's the only workaround I can find.
Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email cannot be acknowledged.

I'm already using the work around I mentioned but help me since I'm new at
this Community posting - where do I "post to the newsgroup"? Sorry for my
ignorance! And should I post THIS initial thread in that newsgroup as well?

I suspect my "standard signature" confused you. Sorry about that. There are
various newsreaders and web sites that provide access to the newsgroups. The
Microsoft web interface you are using is only one of them. Newsreaders, such
as Outlook Express, also have a "Reply to Author" command and the note in my
signature is a reminder to use the "Reply Group" command.
Then to subscribe to other newsgroups, click the Newsgroups button (or
Tools/Newsgroups) to view the entire list. A couple tips, use View/Current
View/Show Replies to my Messages to quickly find your posts, and when you
read a post it will be marked as "Read" so you know what you have/haven't
viewed.
Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email cannot be acknowledged.

Oh Beth, I'm really sounding inept here! Thanks for your patience with a
neophyte - not all are so forgiving here!
FYI, I'm using Outlook 2007 with BCM.
And when you say "click the Newsgroups button (or Tools/Newsgroups)", are
you talking about in Outlook (because I don't see those there!) or in this
community (I don't see them here eiher!)? When I reply to this, at http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...e-8d4e0d5158b7,
there are no options that I see to "Reply to Author" or "Reply Group". And I
love your tips but don't know where to go to try them either! Thanks!

Outlook Express is different than Outlook. Are you using Windows Vista or
Windows XP? In Windows Vista you can use Windows Mail to access the
newsgroups, and Outlook Express if using Windows XP.
Do note you are in the "correct" place and aside from the lack of Sign In
button you appear to have newsgroup access. My additional info is if you're
interested in forgoing the web interface and trying an alternate method. If
still interested, did you try clicking the link I gave you?
(news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ic.office.misc)
Something else to try is in Outlook you can add the News command and it will
open your newsreader:
- In Outlook, click Tools/Customize
- Click the Commands tab
- Click the "Go" category on the left
- Locate "News" and drag/drop it on your toolbar
- Click Close and then try the News command
Keep us updated! :-)
Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email cannot be acknowledged.
