Need to open an Office 2007 document in Office 2000
I need to find some way to open an Office 2007 document in Office 2000. My
Vista computer has died (motherboard probably) and all I have to use are XP
machines with Office 2000 on them. I've tried downloading something that was
supposed to be a 'converter' but it still won't open the Office 2007 file.
There's a document I need to access before the end of the month, but I don't
see getting my Vista machine back from the repair shop before that.
Is there a real converter out there that would let me read these Office 2007
files on my Office 2000 machine? Or could I temporarily install my Office
2007 program on my XP machine to use until I get my Vista machine back? With
all the 'authentication' steps involved, I sort of thought it would not let
me temporarily install 2007. I was also worried that installing it on the XP
would permanently ruin the 2000 installation on the XP computer (which is a
work computer).
Re: Need to open an Office 2007 document in Office 2000
According to MS, the converter will work with Office 2000 SP3. Do you have
SP3 installed?

Open Office -- www.openoffice.org -- will open it. Open Office is free
and will not dork your Office 2000 install. Either that or tell the
person who sent it to you to resave it in a non "x" format.

Yes, on my home machine I do. But I do not believe it has been installed on
my work computer. I will try that and keep you posted. Thank you.

The current stable version of OO will NOT open docx documents. Beta 3 will
and so will Oxygen Open Office, but OO 2.4 will NOT.
