Default Merging calendars (not Overlaid)

I live in my Outlook email app. (have for years) and I learned a long time
ago that the .pst file that is generated by every version of Outlook has a
size limit of 2GB! For whacked out people like me who email a lot -
receiving and sending emails with many multimedia attachments, that size
limit is reached easily in about a year. When Outlook .psts get to be that
large, bad things start to happen. To get around this limitation, Outlook
will let you create and access more than one .pst file. So ... I've managed
to create and access a new .pst file every year. I just name the file
whatever year it is and generate anew in January.

The PROBLEM I am having is that in Outlook 2007, it recognized all the
previous .pst files I've generated when I recently upgraded, but it also
generated several versions of CONTACTS and my CALENDARS for each year. You
can OVERLAY the calendars to read as one calendar (all merged together -
nice), but I couldn't find where to get Outlook to remember to open my
calendars in OVERLAY mode. And if the Calendars won't stay overlaid, is
there some way to consolidate / merge all of the contacts and calendars into
one list of contacts and one calendar (singular) - so I can stop worrying
about missing an important appointment I scheduled 2 years ago?

Outlook 2007 (as does 2003) allows for a default .pst size of 20 gigs,
configurable to 32 terabytes. I don't understand why you have not upgraded
to this file type (unicode) from the old with the limitations (ansi).

To create a new .pst file - go to File->New->Outlook Data File->Type =
Personal Folders. Drag and drop your items from the old file to the new (to
add old calendar to new, display old in table view - categories works well -
select all, right click and drag to the new calendar FOLDER and select your
preferred option_

Oh my ... Did I miss the memo that the .pst file size limitation was removed?
This is great news! If so, I can consolidate everything in ONE new
"unicode" (as you say)-based data file without performance degredation and
worry of error as the file size increases?

I will try this and let you know! Meanwhile, is there NO WAY to get
Outlook to remember to display in overlay mode on startup?
