markup pane

I sent a document to a friend and he returned it to me with the "markup
pane." I can't or don't know how to remove it. When I print the page, it
prints compressed. Is there anything I can do to remove the pane, or will he
have to do something?

You will need to view the "Review" toolbar. There you can turn it on and
off (view "Final"), accept or reject changes (if there were any), etc.
