Does Microsoft products, Office, Excel, etc. run on Linux machines?

yes, under WINE.....but you don't need them - Linux comes with Open
Office....

You really do need them, Open Office is much less compatible with MS
Office than people think. I very much like OO but had to give it up
for reasons of compatibility, unfortunately.

Did you have the latest version? (2.3 AFAIK...)

Yes, it's as incompatible as the earlier versions. OO is a good bit of
software but the claims of compatibility are exaggerated.

Well I've never come across such incompatibility - a bit yes, but not
insurmountable...

Even a bit makes it a "Why bother?" when MSFT Office has no
incompatibilities.

If you like OO you might take a look at this:

http://symphony.lotus.com/software/l...hony/home.jspa

It works like OO, about as well as MSFT Office in some areas, worse
than MSFT Office in some areas and better than MSFT Office in no areas.

In other words, it's another "why bother" but it's a different "why
bother".
