how to view contact phone numbers in task view

When I set up a new task, and choose a contact for that task, I would like to
be able to view the phone number of the contact without having to open up my
contact. something like this:

subject contact phone number
Call Jon about meeting Jon Baker XXX XXX XXXX

I can't get his number to show up without double clicking on his name.
Surely there is a way to have the number visable in a field.
