Have you tried clicking it? It's pulsing to draw attention to it since many
users in the beta missed it.

If you have clicked it and it continues to pulse after restarting the
application then you can modify the Registry to make it stop. Let us know
and I'll dig up the key for you.

they missed because the design of the interface is horrid..

the button looks like a darn decoration... the person who thought of this
needs
a good slap in the face.

No im not going to comment about the stinky ribbon...

Thank you, Beth. I just double clicked on it, while Word was up -- and the
entire app vanished. Oops. I was able to bring it back up just fine and the
button isn't throbbing anymore. It's settled down now, for the other office
app's too.

This interface may be better for hardcore users, once they get used to it.
Maybe even for new users (it's been so long since I was a new user, it's hard
to tell). That being said, I'm still a fan of putting all but the most
frequently used functions into very quick and orderly drop-downs, in order to
save space.

Thanks again.

Glad to hear you have the problem resolved. Thanks for the follow-up. :-)

Also, double-clicking the Office Button is identical to double-clicking the
control menu in other applications. As you found, it will exit the
application.

btw, I completely understand the "new user" feeling. I'm not sure if this
will help but after over 20 years of using the old interface and completely
hating the new one initially, I adapted.

I adapted in 1 hour, thats not the problem..
geeks adapt fast.. its the poor simple user that is the victim..
But even if you adapt there is many people who say the ribbon is slower and
more confusing.
I might agree but there was a solution>>>>

MS SHOULD have provided the old menu-toolbars as an alternative too!!!

there is a plug in for office 2007 that gives you the classic toolbars
and menus

Finding basic commands such as Open, Save, Print, formatting, etc in about
an hour in Office 2007 is definitely feasible. A deep understanding of how
everything actually works both in the interface and under the hood is what
takes time.

I have been teaching office as well as other programs for many years to all
kinds of people,
from children to elderly folk...

I know how people react to interfaces... what they remember how they
remember why they remember
what makes things easy for them and what not....

This is not about how I use a program.. I am a geek.. I eat sleep and
breath computers..

its about the simple folk who just need to use the program fast for everyday
stuff.

They are frustrated.

I spent the last year presenting (previewing) and training Office 2007 to
various groups of people in my area along with traveling to other states for
presentations/training. Interestingly, I've witnessed the opposite reaction
to the new interface. The majority of my students and those attending the
preview presentations are eager to go back and start using the applications.

I suspect my success rate is due to including the rationale behind why the
change was made and teaching them how to actually use the new applications
efficiently using the tools provided with the application.

I can see how an instructor who thinks using an add-in is the only way to go
could easily pass their own frustration on to those they are training.
