How do I download only PowerPoint from Office Home & Student?
Just bought Office Home and Student for Powerpoint 2007, cheaper deal than
stand alone. Have XP Pro SP2 on system already. Selected option to keep
existing versions when I downloaded but see EXCEL, Word, etc. have new
"look". Is 2007 worth giving up old version? I have many templates that I
use for spreadsheets and Word docs and am afraid of losing compatability.
All I really need is Powerpoint...is there a way to install only ppt from the
pack?

Well, PowerPoint 2007 uses Excel 2007 for its charting, so if you use charts
at all, I think it's good to have Excel 2007 installed.
If that's the case, then do a custom install and opt to keep your 2003
programs, then choose the ones from 2007 you want to install. As I said, I'd
do at least PPT and Excel -- but you might want to go ahead and install
Word, too, so you can get used to it. But I wouldn't get rid of the 2003
installation -- there are some things in PPT especially that are easier to
do in 2003, so I switch back and forth quite a bit. Definitely install them
to a different folder than your 2003 installation's on.
I think Word has some issues with 2007 always wanting to open when you
double-click even a *.DOC file -- or maybe it's that the installer always
wants to run. Anyway, I believe there's a registry fix for that, so if you
run into that issue, holler back.

Thank you...I wasn't given an option to do a custom install, although I
looked for it. I'm not too swift technically, though. I didn't have PPT on
this computer, only my old laptop, which is why I needed to add PPT. Should
I uninstall 2007 and try it again as you suggest, provided I can find the
option to custom install?

Oh, if you have 2003 on the old computer, and it's available, I'd leave it
on there.
But if you want to put Excel and Word 2007 on your new system, too, just
look for the custom install or the option to add/remove features. You don't
have to uninstall PPT 2007. Put in the CD, and it will either autorun or
you'll need to double-click setup.exe or whatever. From there, you should
get and "add or remove features" option since you already have something
installed. Choose that, then you'll get a screen with "installation
options."
(I just had to reinstall Vista, and thus, all my apps, a couple of days ago,
so I've got an Office 2007 install disk handy. Those are the steps I'm
offered when I slap it in now.)
