Isn't that the custom for greedy British retailers? Tho' perhaps
it's sneaky taxes like VAT etc. The dollar-pound price equality
seemed also to be the case for restaurant meals in London 2
years ago. The initial impression was favorable until I
remembered, even if the pound was not worth quite so much in
2005.

Re: how come office is nearly 50% more expensive in the UK?
Since we stopped paying the tea tax a couple hundred years ago, the
difference has to be made up somehow. 8-)

Re: how come office is nearly 50% more expensive in the UK?
You can purchase in the US, just select an online retailer that has options
for overseas post delivery.
Amazon US wont post to uk, its part of their agreement with MS.
If you think MS prices are bad just look at Adobe where $ = +
PS There is no difference in the english language versions of MS software,
including o/s
I've purchased from US without problems, from recollection there is no duty
on software.

Afraid its not taxes, products are priced at the rate the supplier thinks
the market will stand / is used to

It's more expensive because MSFT has to pay that stupid EC fine. Who did you think would have to pay the freight???

A completely spurious argument. When XP came out, the UK CDs were pressed in
Ireland. Not much of a freight charge there then. And they were STILL twice
the price of the USA CDs....and that was BEFORE any EU fine.
Go figure that one. A near monopoly is able to demand it's own price......
Re: how come office is nearly 50% more expensive in the UK?
I agree with you, stupid EU fine, however it was more expensive before all
that
