Help-Creating a Word doc template

I have a construction Specification Sheet in a Word doc. I would like to
create a template whereby I can tab to the various lines to enter variable
data. I followed the directions on creating a template from a word doc. I
can't see where it did anything...or if it did, where did it put it? what
did I do wrong? Am I expecting too much? Thanks for any help on this.

actually, you are
trying to create a "form" template.

try researching the criterion:
"how to create forms"
"how to create fields"
'how to protect forms, fields"
