Default Font and print size

I want to type at A4 size paper and to print at A1 size (professional
printer). I know the size of text I wish to see at the finished product but
do not know how to determine what size I should type the original document
at A4.
For example, if I type at Arial Font size 10, what size does that become
when printed at A1?
Presumably there is a simple formula? Can anyone help please/
Thanks.

The size of your paper has nothing to do with it. A point is approximately
1/72 of an inch so... 72 pt font is about 1" high.

If you want half inch high letters, set your font to 36 pt and you'll be
close enough. ;-)

Sorry, but we have a misunderstanding. I am aware that a point is about
0.01".
I will be typing on an A$ page, saving that as a pdf file and asking a
printer to print at A1 size paper.
The maximum size printed word on the A1 paper will be 0,4" - so what font do
I use to type the original on my PC?
If I use 36pt (assuming that is Arial 36) I would get an enormously blown up
final product.
Confused!

When you create an A4 document and if your printer is competent he/she will be
able to enlarge it without issue as long as your images are suitable. You can
get an idea how it will look if you print it yourself as an A1 PDF. Create a
custom size in your PDF software. Zoom the finished product and take a look.

A1 is about 2.83x larger than A4, so divide you desired printed type size by
that.

But really, you could have figured that out with google and a calculator,
right?
