Font dropdown very slow

Hello

In Office 2000 when i first load a document or worksheet, and go to select a
font from the drop down list, it takes 'ages' for the list to apear, sometime
the application hangs and requires end task.
If I disconnect from the internet (disable connection) the list loads
immediately, every time. The list is only the standard office fonts, none
added.

Fully up to date with antivirus/wup/adaware
Any ideas
