Default Fix for "Initializing the root folders to display"?

It's illustrated here:
http://benperove.com/howto/fix-initi...isplay-message

This nagging message is annoying, for example, if you commonly use a VPN but
aren't connected to it 100% of the time. Any mapped drives will trigger the
message when using Office apps. Obviously, you can disconnect/reconnect them
with batch files, but that's hardly the best solution.

Question: Is there perhaps a Registry command that will change Office's
behavior in this area?

Thanks
