Default file ext have changed since removing office 2007 trial

I have MS Office 2003 professional installed on my PC using WXP.
I downloaded the trial version of Office 2007 and then removed it via
Control Panel Add/Remove programs prior to the date of expiry.
Since then any Powerpoint presentations I receive as attachments always show
the 'unidentified; icon but the files do open. Any reason why it does this?

Plus on my husbands computer he has removed a program called Stuffit (which
he only put on for 3 days to use with some specific files that were sent to
him) and since then any zipped files show the unrecognised icon too.

Any ideas how we can sort this out please?

Thanks

Try this. Find a file of the type you are having a problem with (same
file extension) Do a right click on it. The menu should show something
like "Chose default program." chose that option and then choose the program
you want to open that program, like Powerpoint. Of course the program has
to be able to open that kind of program, you can't open a power point
program with Excel.

Thanks Joseph

I had already tried this and what is odd is that all other programs as part
of Office i.e. Access, Excel, Outlook, Word, Publisher show in the 'Open
With' list , I had to browse to locate powerpoint from the Programs list. It
opens the file but still the 'icon' will not change to Powerpoint. Odd isn't
it - any other ideas??

Thanks again

Just a wild guess, but I wonder if it might not be properly registered
in the registry?

Hi Joseph
Thanks again for input. I checked registry and found MS Office listed there
butwith only Word & Outlook listed within it. Is this as it should be?

Sorry, but I am no pro when it comes to the registry files, especially
Vista's. I am not at all sure what should be where.
