So I purchased Office XP a few years ago and ran it on my old computer, which
just died yesterday. I replaced it with a new computer, and would like to
install Office XP on my new computer, but I pulled the discs out and one of
them is scratched beyond use (gave me an error while attempting to install).
Is there somewhere I can download a replacement copy? I have the product key
and 2 of the 3 discs are perfect still... (and I clearly don't want to pay
for Office 2007 right now

«How to order a replacement CD for Microsoft Office»
«If you have lost, broken, or misplaced your original Microsoft Office or
Microsoft Publisher installation CD, you can order replacement media from
Microsoft. »
Wow... love that Microsoft. They told me they don't do replacements (not even
downloads) for the version that I have and that if I want Office, I'd need to
get the new version. *******!

Along with Earle's advice, the link on how to obtain replacement CDs, if
it's scratched you can also try calling a local video rental store and see
if they have scratch removal machine. Note they'll usually charge a nominal
fee for this service.

Which exact version of Office XP (SBE, Student & Teacher, Pro, etc.) do you
have and which disk is it that is scratched?
I may be able to help with a copy of the disk if you can't get the scratch
removed using Beth's suggestion. I know that MS won't replace the disk now
as it is an old version and is no longer supported.
Note the data is etched between the top side and the CD label, the inside of the top label acts as a mirror.... I usually use Brasso and the secret is to rub in circular motion over the entire disc keeping the disk on a flat surface.
If you have doubts try on a old CD first, deep marks will take longer to rub out using a moderate pressure.
