It appears there are numerous issues relating Office 2007 product licencing
that MS should publish in their Office knowledge base, for example:
I have a fully licensed (retail) XP Pro SP2/Office 2003 software base and
decided to trial Project 2007. On expiry of the trial, I noticed the
functionality of some Office Tools such as MS Picture Manager, had been
restricted to read only.
I removed (add/remove programs) the MS Project 2007 trial software in the
hope that it would reinstate my licenced software functionality but surprise,
surprise - it actually appears to have partially deinstalled Office 2003 as
when I run Excel, Word etc, it commences setup and calls for the installation
CD.
This wouldn't have caused me too much grief other than it was unexpected and
my install disk is on the other side of the planet.

Arguments between Office trial versions and earlier existing versions are
common. On at least some of the download pages, MS warns about this, though I
think we'll agree that it's nowhere near obvious or strongly worded enough.
Problems are also common when you have multiple versions of Office/Office apps
installed and neede to uninstall or update any of them.
In a nutshell, you pretty much have to expect problems of one sort or another
when multiple versions are installed, and should probably avoid installing trial
versions on any computers you can't risk losing full use of.
Virtual machines are very useful for test purposes.

that is most disturbing.
It seems to me that trial software needs to make use of a specific
"uninstall" that will restore anything that is changed to its previous stste.
Of course there are risks associated with trialing software on a production
system however it is the time taken to unravel the mystery that p----- me
off. How hard can it be to put the disclaimer on the download page:
"BEWARE: Installation of this trial product may require reinstallation of
previous versions of your software. See KB#xxxxxxxx."

Yes, I understand and don't disagree. I was only asking about the License
Activation and Picture Manager because there's a hotfix available for that.
Call Microsoft product support and tell them you're being prompted to go
through License Activation when you launch Picture Manager, and they'll put
you through to the PowerPoint support team -- which is also doing Picture
Manager support and can provide you with a fix for this. You won't be
charged for this support call.

knowledge of a hot fix for Picture Manager and have no desire to look for one
without a KB# or some other reference.
