Default AutoComplete/AutoText

My AutoComplete/AutoText (are they the same thing?) stopped working....It IS
turned on. It stopped working after I installed PhraseExpress. I UNinstalled
PhraseExpress and have AutoComplete/AutoText turned on, but the function has
not returned. I have turned it on and off and rebooted many times, but it
never works.
I have:
Office Word 2003 (11.8215.8202) SP3
OE 6
XP Prof

Do you mean AutoCorrect? The feature that automatically corrects words that
are frequently misspelled? If so then that's not the same as AutoText.
AutoText is when you store an entry, type the first 4 or more letter for
your entry, and you see an AutoComplete tip telling you to press Enter to
complete the entry.

If PhraseExpress hooks into Word then uninstalling it may have removed its
functionality from Word. Take a look under Tools/Templates and Add-ins and
see if you have an add-in for PhraseExpress listed in your Global Templates
list. If so, exit Word and locate it on your HD and either delete it or move
it out of the folder. To find it, either note the path at the bottom of the
Templates and Add-ins dialog box when you have it selected or use Windows
Search to find it.

If you don't see it listed then post back and we'll go from there. :-)

Hi Beth!

A while ago I discovered that the function I was remebering was from
OpenOffice and was never in Word....It is a sub-set of AutoComplete whereby
OO automatically collects words used often in the particular document and
offers autocomplete for them--it completes the word if you hit Enter. It
allows you to save the list for use in other documents. I found it VERY
useful (I am a slow typist)! I understand (?) that in Word you have to
manually put in every word you want it to work for. The OO system is much
more useful....

Your letter would be very helpful for anyone with the problem you related
to...:-)...! Great detail--very thorough!
