Default ACCESS table linked to EXCEL spreadsheet. How to know which table is linked?

Hi folks -

Could you please help. I have Excel templates that pull data from
ACCESS (make table queries).

In Excel I go to DATA -> IMPORT EXTERNAL DATA -> EDIT QUERY where i am
trying to find from the list (~100 ) of tables which table is
participationg in a query. Tables unfortunately are not named
appropriately.

The only information I have is the list of fields.

The person who created all databases and templates is not with my
company anymore. ACCESS databases and Excel templates are not
documented.

My question: Is there any easiest way to find which ACCESS table is
linked to the EXCEL template?

Thanks,

Artem

the easy way to sort
out the confusion and
relationships between
excel and access is to
understand the basis of
"tables".

Simply, you might want
to open an access table
in datasheet view or other
and copy and paste the
whole thing into a blank
spreadsheet.

Then save that one worksheet
as an individual file with only
a single tab of data that
you pasted from access and
close it.

Then with a seperate excel
worksheet you can build
your query and link to the table
you saved above.

If you are successful you will begin
to see some continuity between
excel and access and realize that
access can provide more power
which you may or may not need.

If you can Edit Query, then the table name should be part of the
query. In Excel's Query Wizard, click on the Next button several times
until you get to the 'Query Wizard - Finish' dialog, then choose 'View
data or edit query in Microsoft Query' in the 'What would you like to
do next?' section of the dialog an click on the Finish button. That'll
launch Microsoft Query, and you should be able to see the table
name(s) in the upper portion of it's initial screen, or if not, you
could click on the SQL button in its toolbar to display the actual SQL
code. The table name(s) will appear in the FROM clause in the SQL
code.

This isn't a good newsgroup in which to ask application-specific
questions. You'd be better off asking questions like this in Excel-
specific newsgroups like

microsoft.public.excel

or

microsoft.public.excel.misc
