I can see the electrolytic capacitors, the two resistors and what looks like 2 orange polyester capacitors.... what is it I ask, a smoothing block for a rectifier?

If you want a PCB making let me know, for experimenting and test hook ups I made a blob board, another way is to cut very tiny PCB or copper strips up and glue them on a board.

Ah the motor yes.... how about a discus launcher just let a platter sit on the top, switch on and run like hell cos there will be some Gs flying

Thanks Davy! However this thing needs no PCB as it's is just a toy I made for my 4 yo
(inspired by Make magazine Capacitor Robot Charm)
I wonder if it's possible to hook up the HDD motors straight to the 12v (without sync signal etc.). Can they be used as generators? I wish I had more time...

I never thought those things can be another thing after its life

I'll try the HDD wind chime since I got lots of broken HDD..
