Default Tecra M5 boot password ? ASP ask me 150€

Hi everybody !

I don't konw if this is the good NG to ask your help ? (i hope so)

I've bought a second hand Toshiba tecra M5 (it was sold as out of order)
I send it to Toshiba ASP to repair it but know Toshiba ask me 150€
($250US) to remove the boot password.
I don't find any solution on the internet cause it's the new anti-thief
protection system.
No response from the previous owner
And I don't want to paid 150€ more...

Here is the test I 've already tried :

- backdoor password
- no DB25 so no loopback dongle solution
- unplug internal keyboard after booting and plug an USB ext. keyboard
(as the solution for the dell)
- basic password (toshiba, 1234, 0000....)

Remove cmos battery has no effect with this new protection (no jumper to)
Password come before booting (so unable to boot from another external
device like floppy to try a keydisk)

What a pity...

If anyone has an idea ?
Thks !
G.

Well there are those that will repair motherboards like:

Old Toshiba laptops used either a parallel port dongle or a special boot
floppy to remove the password. Since Parallel ports and floppy disks
are long gone, however, ...... (although it might be worth trying the
boot floppy with a USB floppy drive).

Toshiba now uses about a dozen different ways to kill the boot password.
None of them are as simple as a master password or removing a battery
(even an internal battery). On MOST models (not all), there is a jumper
point that can be shorted to kill the password, but it's location varies
all over the place from model to model. All I can suggest is an
exhaustive web search. It goes without saying that this information was
not intended to be made public.

Also a lot of new ones are using a challenge/response method. This
requires the computer to be powered while holding down as many as 4 or
5 keys or pressing up to 4 or 5 keys in a particular sequence. This
generates a challenge code on the screen. The tech, who must have a
Toshiba Tech ID, then calls a special ASP Suport number and reads the
challenge code to them. Then either immediately or with a return phone
call the tech is given the correct response code to unlock the
computer and allow entering the bios to either change or delete the
password. At no time is the original password revealed and the
computer cannot be turned off after it generates the challenge code
until the correct response code has been entered. Otherwise you have
to start the whole process over again with a new challenge code and
another phone call and...

BTW, before going through this process the ASP is supposed to get some
sort of proof of ownership. Not all of them do that all of the time
but you need to be prepared to provide that if necessary.

Quite a few of the machines that use challenge/response ALSO have
jumpers that will disable the password via hardware.

Just for the record, as of about a year and a half ago when I retired
from a 10+ year stint at a Premier Toshiba ASP, NONE of the Toshiba
models that required the challenge/response method had any other way
to clear a BIOS password. In fact, we had a few cases that due to a
glitch in their database, it was impossible to clear the password. We
were actually authorized to replace the system board, even on out of
warranty units, in cases where that occurred.

It may have been different with other manufacturers as you stated
above. Also that may have changed now. I've been enjoying retirement
and not having to try and keep up with all that stuff any more. :-)

In addition, there were quite a few models that had 2 tiny, hard to
find, pads hidden somewhere, usually inside one of the "doors" on the
bottom and sometimes under a removable PCB, that you could short
across to clear the BIOS password.
