Default Solving a problem: Software will not install

I'm running into a problem on a LOT of Toshiba laptops lately where
Microsoft software downloaded using Windows Update (or Microsoft update)
will not install. It downloads, but the installation fails. Seems to
have something to do with a recent Microsoft update (possibly SP3).

Here is the fix:

1. Open a command prompt (DOS prompt; black window)
2. Type Net Stop wuauserv
3. Type regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\wups2.dll
(if Windows is not on drive C:, modify as necessary)
4. Type Net Start wuauserv

This is based on a Microsoft document at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;943144

But the situation doesn't exactly fit the description. However the fix
works.
