Default Missing Registry Data On Fujitsu

Some weeks back, I began to get this message popping up
whenever I booted my Fujitsu S running XP Pro SP3. All
functions seem OK and, perhaps, I am only imagining that it
is running a bit slow.

Nonetheless, I have tried the suggested cure of running
RegEdit and hitting F8 during the reboot but the Fujitsu
does not respond to F8. Thus, I cannot reload the last
functional registry info.

Any other suggestions?

Kal

Hi Kal. Sometimes holding the CTRL down will pop that menu up too. You can
adjust Windows to automatically pop this menu up whenever you boot too. Go
to:

My Computer (right click)
Properties
Advanced (tab)
Startup and Recovery (Settings button)
Time to display list of operating system (check)
Time to display recovery options when needed (check)

Thanks but those items are already checked! To my embarrassment,
though, it turns out that this machine has XP Home, ps3, not XP Pro.

Any other ideas?

Kal

Hi Kal;
Have you tried a system restore back to a date before the problem
cropped up?
That may help.

I thought about that but I cannot recall when it happened. I have
been living with it for quite while as I was too busy using it to take
the time to fix it!

I was able to use the CTRL key to get the option to select an earlier
working setup but that had no effect.

The curious thing is that the machine is working fine except for the
nagging pop-up error message each time I boot up.

Maybe a malware problem, or just a flaky CTRL key?

If anti-virus software doesn't report any infections, and an
in-place repair (reinstallation) of XP doesn't fix the problem,
I'd steer toward the second of those two possibilities.

Kal;
I had a similar experience recently with a different laptop. I used a
small utility, "ccleaner" to clean my registry of old entries and the
error message went away. The cleaner can backup the registry removals
as a .reg file so you can always revert if things don't work right,
but this utility is pretty conservative, so I have never needed to
revert. You may need to run the registry cleaner more than once to
thoroughly clean out the old dead ends. Run it until it finds no more
issues.
Good luck!
