Laptop charging problem

Hello,

I have a Compaq nc6120.
Recently it stopped charging when I connect the adapter, it does
charge however when I connect an external monitor (I work alot with
dual screens with the adapter connected).

Is there a way to get this fixed? Any idea's what might be wrong?

I can't even conceive of a mechanism by which the symptoms you describe
could possibly occur.

Does it still charge with the external monitor connected but switched off?
