Default Hard Drive

Beside the size (and rpm if your lucky) laptop manufactures don't go into
much detail concerning the hard drive in the respective machines ie
manufacturer, model, cache, which makes comparing machines difficult.

Generally the only things that are important are the size and rpm. The rest
make little or no difference.

I spent almost 10 years working at a Toshiba Service Center. During
that time they used many different brands and models of hard drives
depending on availibility during the manufacturing process. I don't
know of a single model of notebook produced in that time period that
only used one brand of hard drive. It was feasible to unbox 4 or 5
brand new identical models of notebooks and find 4 or 5 different
brands of hard drive in them. And sometimes if the production run was
long enough you would find different models of hard drives from the
same manufacturer being used.

Just for the record they used Toshiba, Hitachi, IBM, Fujitsu, Seagate,
Western Digital and Hitachi/IBM drives (after Hitachi bought out IBM's
hard drive division).
